GSM and Arduino based power theft detection and protection

Theft of electricity is the criminal practice of stealing electrical power. It is a crime and is punishable by fines and/or incarceration. It belongs to the non-technical losses. According to the annual Emerging Markets Smart Grid: Outlook 2015 study by the Northeast Group, LLC, the world loses US$89.3 billion annually to electricity theft. The highest losses were in India ($16.2 billion), followed by Brazil ($10.5 billion) and Russia ($5.1 billion). Electrical power theft detection and control system is used to detect the consumer when they try to use the power illegally. Electricity theft happens when the customer uses energy meter tampering such as placing a magnet near to energy meter, disconnecting the neutral line and shorting the phase coil of the current transformer. To identify and control power theft here an intelligent system is introduced. It consists of two current transformers that are used to measure the actual load current and the other is to measure the turning back or neutral current. Those two current signals are fed to the microcontroller. The microcontroller will compare these two current signals. Depending on the comparison made by the microcontroller it concludes whether power is theft through bypassing the energy meter or not and a message will be sent to notify the authorized power vendor using GSM Hence the power vendor can easily identify the customer who is illegally consuming the power for that energy meter. Moreover, when there is an occurrence of theft the relay will disconnect the load from the supply. The GSM based power theft control system is developed. We used Proteus software to analyze and estimate what the hardware will look like. Mainly this system consists of microcontroller, energy meter, current transformers, LDR, relay, LCD and GSM module.

Role of reverse logistics in product recall: Case study on Nestle Maggi

This study investigates how reverse logistics plays a crucial role during the crisis of a product recall. Product recall is a rapidly growing problem that can affect a business pertaining to any industry that causes significant damage to the organization. The effect of such an event can however be minimized with the implementation of a functional logistical system. We analyze in detail, the cause and impact of a product recall on an organization and logistical procedures followed during such time. We further examine the categories of reverse logistics and various implications that may occur in logistics specifically during a recall. The article also focuses on the role of third party logistics, and warehouse management system during the event of a product recall. The study simultaneously aims at comprehensively covering the logistical implications of a product recall. Product Recalls are a serious cause for concern for not just large scale but small and medium scale enterprises as well. The ability of the firm to withstand product recalls is evaluated on the basis of their preparedness to continue with the recall and their regular operations concurrently. This can be observed in the latter part of the study where the case of Nestle Maggi, one of the biggest product recalls is carefully reviewed. For the purpose of analyzing Nestlé’s reverse logistics procedure, we gathered secondary data from various sources. Based on the data collected and reviewed from external sources, the study highlights various suggestions and alternatives that could have been adopted to reduce the cost implications faced by the company.

The analytical comparison on Cu2O nanoparticles synthesized by the different applied methods

Copper (II) Oxide (CuO) nanoparticles can be synthesized by many different methods. Among them, the chemical precipitation method and pulsed laser ablation technique were applied according to the simplicity of the methods and the effectiveness of the cost and the product. For the former method, by using copper sulfate pentahydrate is a precursor and ammonia solution as a stabilizing agent, CuO nanoparticles were produced. For the latter method, the pure copper target metal (immersed in the liquid environment of distilled water) was ablaze by using 1064 nm wavelength of Neodymium: Yttrium Alumina Garnet (Nd: YAG) laser for producing CuO nanoparticles. The synthesized CuO nanoparticles were characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR, and Zetasizer (DLS). X-ray Diffraction (XRD) pattern confirmed that as-synthesized particles were CuO and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to study the vibrational frequencies between the bonds of atoms for a synthesis CuO nanoparticles. The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis indicated flake-like and spherelike structures for chemical precipitation and pulsed laser ablation techniques. The zetasizer was used to study the size distribution of the CuO nanoparticles.

Android application for dairy farming

Dairying is also a major source of livelihood for approximately 80 percent of small and marginal farmers in India (typically owning one to three milk-producing animals) who contribute approximately 70 percent to the total milk production. India has the world’s largest livestock population 58 percent of buffaloes and 15 percent of cattle. Owing to this huge bovine stock, though India has managed to attain 1st position in milk production, the full potential of Indian milk herd remains unattained. The milk productivity of India’s livestock is less than half (48%) of the global average: 987 kg per lactation compared to the global average of 2,038 kg per lactation. There is a need to raise the milk yield in order to enhance the per capita availability of milk and to meet the increasing demand. The financial effect of animal health problems is familiar, however, its devastating impact on the income of farmers' and well-being is generally minimized.
