A two-parameter fourth-order methods for solving nonlinear equations

In this paper, we present two-parameter iterative methods for solving nonlinear equations. Convergence analysis shows that the new methods converge of order four. Some illustrative examples are solved to show the validity of our method.

Study on behavior of SIFCON produced with low tensile strength steel fibre

The acronym SIFCON stands for Slurry Infiltrated Fibre Concrete. SIFCON is a unique kind of fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) which has large volume percentages of fibre. In SIFCON we can use fibre from 5 to 20 % of the volume of the cube in comparison with FRC; which contains fiber only from 2% to 5% by volume of the cube because of clustering and balling problem. The SIFCON can also be used in wear & tear cases since it consists of a high-performance ductile layer of high fibre concrete. Although it does not perform any load-bearing function since it is only used in very thin layers. In this research work we have used 6%, 12% and 18% of steel fibre by volume of 150 mm × 150 mm × 150 mm cube to find out the strength and compare it with SIFCON which is produced due to partial replacement of cement with the powder of glass. Glass is a non-crystalline brittle and hard, somewhat transparent material produced by fusion, usually consisting of mutually dissolved silicate and silica that also contains lime and soda. The waste glass contains high silica due to which when this waste glass is ground to a very fine powder which reacts with alkalis in cement and forms a cementitious product which helps in the contribution of strength. In this work 5%, 10%, 15% & 20% Glass powder is replaced by weight of cement.

Quasi experimental study to assess effectiveness of video teaching programme on knowledge regarding prevention and first aid management of selected home accidents among mothers of under five children residing in selected villages of District. Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh

Accidents are the main cause of injury and even death in children. People only relate accidents to a traffic accident or accidents in outdoor activities. However, as a matter of fact, the place where people regard as the safest place–home–hides many “hazards”. Accidents are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in children. The largest number of accidents happen in the living/dining room. However, the most serious accidents happen in the kitchen and on the stairs. Every year more than 67,000 children experience an accident in the kitchen - 43,000 of these are aged between 0-4 years; 58,000 children have accidents on the stairs. About 90% of all accidents are preventable by safety measures. Most of these accidents are preventable through increased awareness, improvements in the home environment and greater product safety. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of video teaching programme on knowledge regarding prevention and first aid management of selected home accidents. The study adopted quasi-experimental pretest-post control group test research design and was conducted at selected villages of District Sirmour, H.P. A total of 60 mothers (30 experimental groups) (30 control group) were selected by Non-probability convenience sampling technique. A structured knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge regarding prevention and first aid management of selected home accidents among mothers of under-five children. Data analysis was done by descriptive and inferential statistics. The study results showed that in experimental group knowledge pre-test mean ±SD was (18.50± 3.739) and post-test mean and SD was (23.87 ± 2.177) and p<0.05 level of significance i.e. (0.001**). There is a highly significant increase in knowledge of mothers of under-five children after the video teaching programme. Hence it is proved that the research hypothesis is accepted. In the control group pre-test mean and SD was (19.30 ± 2.731) and post-test mean and SD was (20.00 ± 2.378). By organizing and providing the educational aid session we can improve the awareness and motivation to prevent household accident among under five children.

Neutrophil Extracellular Traps – The catapult of periodontal disease

Neutrophils are highly versatile and sophisticated cells which act as the body’s first line of defence. They act as effectors in both innate and adaptive immunoregulatory networks. Neutrophil extracellular traps are a new and unexpected antimicrobial activity of neutrophils wherein upon encountering bacteria, neutrophils release a meshlike structure capable of ensnaring and eliminating microbes. Studies have shown that periodontitis is characterized by neutrophil infiltration and the formation of Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs). This review is intended to highlight the structure and formation of NET, NETosis, NET in health and disease and the role of NET production in periodontal pathophysiology.

Criminal identification using facial recognition

individualistic characters of the human face can be extracted by face recognition. The human face detection and recognition finds a major role in the application as video surveillance, face image database management. Face recognition is a simple and agile biometric technology. This technology uses the most obvious human identifier of the face. The face recognition finds its application in security, health care, criminal identification, places where human recognition is the necessity. With the advancement in technology, the extracting features of the human face become simpler. This paper discusses a different algorithm to recognize the human face. The purpose is to identify the criminal face and retrieve the information stored in the database for the identified criminal. The process is categorized into two major steps. First, the face is extracted from the image, distinguishing factors in the face are extracted and stored in the database. The second step is to compare the resultant image with the existing image and return the data related to that image from the database.
